Boil Water Notice issued; water conservation required

The City of Thomaston is issuing a boil water notice for all water customers. Southwest Water Company staff detected rising turbidity levels in the water at the plant last night and made the decision to shut the plant down, drain the tanks, and start the process over again. At no time did water leaving the water plant exceed the state drinking water requirements; however, because the water line system lost pressure, the city is issuing a boil water notice. Also, because the water system is without pressure, we are asking citizens to refrain from using water unless it is a critical need situation. This will allow the hospital and other locations with critical needs to utilize the water remaining in the system.

Southwest Water Company has advised us that they anticipate that they will begin to send water to the system after 5 p.m. today, Monday, June 21. It will take several hours after that to restore pressure to the system. Citizens will continue on a boil water notice for at least 24 hours after the system has been brought back up to full pressure, water quality tests have been taken, and the city receives the all clear from the Georgia EPD.

For updated information, please listen to the radio and watch TV 10. The number for the water plant is 706-647-9694. The numbers for City Hall are 706-647-4242 and 706-647-6633.

County also issues notice

Pursuant to the advisory notice put out by the City of Thomaston, Upson County Government would like to issue the following statement to the citizens of unincorporated Upson County:

Please be advised that all Upson County water customers should take care to conserve all household water usage until further notice, due to a decrease in the availability of alternative source water.

Additionally, customers in Logan's landing, Lincoln Park, Highway 74 East and Johnston Road should begin boiling their water due to the loss of pressure in the City of Thomaston's water lines. Those homes and businesses in the Thurston, Sunset, Northside, and Potato Creek Heights areas currently unaffected by these on-going pressure issues. The Boil Water Notice is in effect until further information becomes available.

We apologize for any inconveniences that this may cause. For questions, please contact the Upson County Water Department at 706-647-3513.
