Upson-Lee eighth grader Kelsey Odom put on a performance of a lifetime on Wednesday night. In the Lady Knights J.V. game against the Lady Huskies from Howard High School, the speedy forward scored an amazing seven goals in one game, the last coming with six seconds remaining in the contest.

Aryn Baucom, Alicia Anderson, and Emily Wainwright each scored the other three goals in the 10-0 Upson-Lee victory.

“We played great as a team tonight,” said UL J.V. head coach Stephen Boyd. “Kelsey really had an unbelievable game tonight. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone score seven goals in one game, at any level. Her teammates really set her up nicely, and I was proud of the way our back line kept them from any scoring opportunities. It was just an overall great game for us, a great team effort tonight.”

Just over two minutes into the game, Odom scored her first goal to give the Lady Knights a 1-0 lead. The Lady Huskies seemed to recover after the quick goal from UL, but with 17:51 remaining it was Upson-Lee’s Aryn Baucom who found the back of the net for UL’s second gaol of the game.

With a 2-0 in the first half, Odom started to score seemingly at will. Over the next three minutes, Odom scored three goals, and fans started to realize they may be seeing something special about to take place. At the 16:35 mark Odom scored the Lady Knights’ third goal of the game, booted the Lady Knights fourth goal of the game at the 15:20 mark, and finally blasted UL’s fifth goal of the game with 15:20 remaining in the first half.

With a 5-0 lead, Alicia Anderson scored her first goal of the game with 9:55 left in the first half, giving UL a 6-0 lead. The two teams entered the locker room with the Lady Knights leading by six goals.

After a little over three minutes had elapsed in the second half of the game, Odom struck again, sending a great ball to the upper left corner of the goal, giving UL a 7-0 lead with 31:25 to go in the game. Emily Wainwright added her name to the scoring column, with Upson-Lee’s eighth goal of the game with 14:23 left in the second half.

Odom added her sixth goal of the game with 8:34 remaining in the game on a break away goal, giving UL a 9-0 lead. Finally with just six seconds left in the game, Odom scored her seventh an final goal of the contest, sealing the Lady Knights 10-0 victory.

The Lady Knights took to the field once again against Troup County on Thursday night, but the results of the game were not available by press time.

From the first time I saw Kelsey play U-8 with my son Dawson, I knew she was something special. She has a great head for the game and plays without fear. Keep your eye on this young lady...she's the real deal!
