The Upson-Lee Knights shook off a 6-3 loss in their season opener to Harris County, by hitting the road to Barnesville and defeating the Lamar County Trojans by a 5-3 score on Thursday night. (Above) Upson-Lee senior pitcher Dillon Watson pitched four scoreless innings for the Knights in the victory. UL scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead and held on for the 5-3 victory. A key play in the game came off of the arm of center fielder Brandon Blount. With runners on second and third base and two outs, the Trojans drilled a line drive to center field. After the runner on third scored, Blount gunned down a second runner trying to score, with catcher Austin Matson applying the tag. The pivotal play kept Lamar County from a possible big inning. Upson-Lee (1-1) will travel to Forsyth today to face the Mary Persons Bulldogs (0-1) this evening, and will play their 2013 home opener tomorrow night against the Woodland Wolfpack (2-1). Today’s game in Forsyth is slated for 5:45 p.m. and tomorrow’s Region 4 contest is set to start at 5:55 p.m. at Historic Silvertown Ballpark.
