Lady Knights headed to Trojan Cup Championship

Upson-Lee’s Haley Baucom sends a header towards the Lady Trojans’ goal. UL defeated Lamar County by a 5-0 score to advance to the Championship Game of the Lamar County Trojan Cup Invitational on Saturday. Baucom and freshman Jordie Rogers each scored two goals in the contest, with a goal from Grace Wolverton sandwiched in between. Akeila Raines finished the game with three assists. The Lady Knights defeated Pike County in the first game of the tournament. The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation, but UL won 4-2 on penalty kicks. Twin sisters Haley and Hannah Baucom each made penalty kicks, along with Rogers and Taylor Massey. UL keeper Vanessa Harp blocked a Lady Trojans’ penalty kick which helped seal the Lady Knights victory. Upson-Lee will play Griffin tomorrow in a Region 4 contest at Matthews Field. The game is slated to start at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Knights will also play in the Championship Game of the Trojan Cup on Saturday. As of press time their opponent was unknown, but the game will start at 2 p.m. in Barnesville.
