There is a giant teddy bear advertised on television with different sexy ladies snuggled up next to it. This is obviously geared toward men to purchase for the ladies in their lives. With Valentine’s Day coming up, I figure that’s what the commercial is for. But really, who wants a giant teddy bear twice their size? Maybe some people. But what grown woman is going to snuggle up next to it while looking glowingly into its big brown button eyes? I can see snuggling next to a giant soft bear, like a giant pillow, but the gazing? Unless, it looks like Tom Cruise; come on. Definitely a commercial written and produced by men.
Valentine’s Day can be tons of fun with kids, but beware if you are in an adult relationship. The chocolate waters can be tricky. Remember in Willy Wonka where Augustus Gloop looked down into the chocolate lake? Then he fell in? Men, this can be you! Valentine’s cards, chocolates and presents are like the fantasy of the giant chocolate lake; mess up and you’ll get sucked up into the chocolate extraction pipe.
Here are some helpful hints: Men do not run out to the store the night before and sift through what little cards are left. We know what you are doing. Heading out to Wal-Mart, or name the store, on the night of February 13th is a sure give away. Unless, you have two or three jobs, this tells the lady in question, that you have left the present/flowers/card for the last minute and anything will do. The “heart-felt” romantic arena has now turned into “I’d better get something or I’ll be in the dog house.” And don’t think that your significant other is not going to notice the bunches of flowers other men are carrying to the check outs.
One of my favorite parts of the day was the time when we bought the boxed Valentine Cards for elementary school classes. It was a tradition to go with our daughter to the store and she would decide which cards would be picked along with which candies. There was the list of names to be carefully written on tiny envelopes. Each name would be checked off the list to make sure no one was missed. Were all of the teacher cards there? These cards would be placed in separate bags for each child in the classrooms. Invariably, she’d come home with a huge bag full of Valentine’s with candy and stickers.
I love Valentine’s Day. The best part is planning something special for friends and family. It could be as simple as an e-card, baked heart cookies, or decorating the tree outside with heart ornaments. It is a day with a theme. And any themed day with a chocolate motif is alright with me. Our daughter saw a massive stuffed bear over $50 strategically placed at a local store. By her reaction, I think that whoever wrote the commercial with the grown women and the giant teddy had the wrong demographic.
