THOMASTON - Mr. Benjamin O’Neal Brown, 71 of Thomaston died Saturday January 12, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Brown was a native and life-long resident of Thomaston, Upson County. He was born to the late Corrie and Odessa Brown on May 4, 1941.
Mr. Brown was formerly employed by Thomaston Mills as Bleachery Division Supervisor and Piggie Park as Server until his retirement. He was a dedicated member of Friendship Baptist Church of Thomaston, Ga. under the leadership of Pastor Jimmy Lyons, where he served as a devoted Deacon, astute Bible Study Leader and Sunday School Teacher.
Mr. Brown was passionate about his gardening, landscaping, spending time with family, and most importantly his love and devotion to Christ. He devoted himself daily to living by the word of God and without a day going by shared his love through giving and doing for others. He never met a stranger.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Mable T. Brown; two daughters, Renee (Jimmy) Harris of Thomaston and Phyllis C. Brown of Hampton, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Dr./Lt. Carlisha (Dr./Lt. Andrew) Gentles of Chinle, Ariz, Britni Brown of Decatur, Ga.; Brianna Vaughn of Hampton, Ga. He is also survived by four sisters, Mary Kate (Shedrick) Risper, Elouise Mann and Sheila (Milve) Colbert, all of Thomaston, Florence (Clifford) Holsey of Milledgeville, Ga.; four brothers, James Henry (Georgia) Brown, Mitchell (Nancy) Brown, of Thomaston, Leon Brown of Augusta, Ga. and Dennis (Arlinda) Brown of North Carolina. In-laws include Ruth Kendall and Barbara Moreland of Atlanta, Ga.; Betty Wonnum and Aldeen (Portia) Tomlin of Thomaston, Ga.; Arthur (Ernestine) Tomlin of Detroit, Mich.; and a devoted aunt and nephew, Ms. Doris Kendall and Mr. Ricky Raines both of Thomaston, Ga.; also a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday January 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial followed in Upson Memorial Garden.
Burden and Worthy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
