Mr. James Arnold Montgomery, 89, of Thomaston, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Riverside Nursing Center.

Mr. Montgomery was born on September 19, 1923 in Gadsden, AL. He moved to Thomaston as a young child and lived here for the remainder of his life. He retired after 43 years with Thomaston Mills.

Mr. Montgomery was a life-long member of East Thomaston Baptist Church. He loved his family and was a huge Atlanta Braves fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Cleveland Montgomery and Cora Ella Freeman Montgomery; sisters, Bertie Wade, Sara Ward, Clara Mallory and Onzelle Jackson, all of Thomaston, and brothers Harvey and Riley Montgomery of Thomaston.

Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nell Denham Montgomery; his daughter, Peggy (Garnett) Grubb of Fayetteville; a sister, Faye Bagley of Thomaston; two brothers, Earl Montgomery of Thomaston and Barney Montgomery of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandsons, Jim (Rhonda) Grubb of Thomaston and Jeff (Ashlie) Grubb of Hoover, Ala.; and five great grandchildren, Jamie Kay and Julianne Grubb of Thomaston, and Will, Lily and Jon Hinton Grubb of Hoover, Ala.

Funeral services for Mr. Montgomery were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 in the Chapel of Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home. Rev. Joey Smith officiated and burial followed in South View Cemetery.
