I consider 2012 a good year! Sure there were some disappointments along the way, but I feel that the year was, overall, a solid year.
I know that I made some New Years resolutions in this column last year at this time, but to be honest, I can’t remember a single one of them. I guess that’s the way it goes with most resolutions. You have good intentions, but somewhere along the way you kinda forget what your had resolved to do. That’s me in a nutshell!
Because of my inability to live up to last year’s resolutions, there will be no resolutions this year. I’ll just try to do the best I can in 2013 and make every effort to live by the Golden Rule. Hopefully I can be successful in my attempts.
With that all said, let’s take a look back at 2012. I guess that the one thing that I would consider to be my biggest disappointment in 2012 was the re-election of Barak Obama as our President. I know that this is not a political column, but there is really no way to express my disappointment in the American voting populace in keeping this man in office. Chances are that our nation will never overcome the harm that he has done to our country as well as the future damage that he will bestow on our once great nation. I just don’t understand how anyone could be supportive of this narcissist.
Another sad point in the year was the retirement of Chipper Jones. Chipper has been my favorite Braves’ player since he arrived in Atlanta full-time in 1995. The fact that he remained a Brave throughout his entire career is a credit to his loyalty and love for the city and Braves’ fans. I really hated to see Chipper call it quits and it will really be different next season when the Braves take the field and #10 isn’t over at third base.
2012 was a really bad season for my Auburn Tigers. I don’t know what happened, but I’m glad it’s over. A number of good men, Auburn ‘s coaching staff, lost their jobs because of the disastrous season, but the Tigers are now on their way to rebuilding a championship team. We’ll be back soon!
I know that all of you Dawg and Tide fans are pleased with your teams’ performance this season and you should be. As a non-fan all I can do is congratulate you on your school’s success. Both teams are excellent!
The Upson-Lee Knights football team had a somewhat disappointing season, but I did enjoy watching senior quarterback Corey Moss perform. He is a top-notch player and hopefully he will get a chance to play at the collegiate level next year.
It was also fun to watch former Knights’ Logan Winkles play at North Carolina State and Tunde Fariyike perform at Auburn in 2012. They are representing our community in a quality manner and I’m proud of them.
It was great to see Gordon Junior College make it to the 2012 Junior College World Series. Thomaston was represented on that team by Coach Gary Sharpe and pitcher Zach Jones. I was also pleased to hear that Zach received a baseball scholarship to Georgia Southern University.
And finally, I guess I’ll always remember 2012 as the year that I finished and published my book on R.E. Lee Rebel football. I worked on it for three years and finally got it done in 2012. Thanks for all who have purchased a copy.
As we move into 2013 I wish for all of my readers a Healthy, Prosperous, and Happy New Year. May all of your dreams come true and may all of your days be bright!
