Last Thursday afternoon was perhaps the most memorable day in Upson-Lee cross country history. For the first time in school history, the Upson-Lee Knights qualified for the State Meet in Carrollton this Saturday. The Knights placed fourth in the region, with the top four teams advancing to the State Meet.

Joining the Knights at the State Meet, will be the Lady Knights cross country team, which qualified for the State Meet as a team for only the second time in school history. The Lady Knights finished in third place overall, just one point behind Spalding for the Region 4 Runners-up title.

“I cannot begin to tell you how proud Coach Patterson and myself are of these kids,” said head coach Stephen Boyd. “They have dramatically improved their times during the season. We are in a great spot to start off very well for next year because the top seven boys and girls will be returning except for one senior, Levi Ellerbee. These kids just prove how hard work and determination leads to success.”

For the Knights, Brian Reveire earned a medal for placing seventh with a time of 18:27. The Lady Knights had two runners earn medals, Megan Collins and Abigail Manley. Collins placed sixth over all with a time of 22:55 and Manley placed eighth overall with a time of 23: 13.
