World War II Veterans from Upson County were invited last week to take part in a World War II Veterans Tribute Program sponsored by The Rotary Club of Barnesville and held at the Barnesville Civic Center. More than 50 veterans from Upson and Lamar counties were honored at the event, which featured an Honor Guard of military officers and enlisted personnel saluting the veterans as they entered, a luncheon, and guest speaker Commissioner Pete Wheeler of the Georgia Department of Veterans Service. In the photo, Upson County WWII Veteran Britty Dickens (center) is assisted by his daughter, Christy Chapman (right) and Thomaston Mayor Hays Arnold (left) as he enters the Civic Center through the Honor Guard, which included Upson-Lee High School NJROTC Commander Jim Jarvis (first officer on the left).
