Miss Lynda Gail McSwain, 72, of Atlanta, went home to be with her Lord on October 9, 2012 following an extended illness.

Miss McSwain was born in Thomaston on June 4, 1940, a daughter of the late H. G. McSwain and Gladys Hudson McSwain. A graduate of R. E. Lee High School in Thomaston and class valedictorian, Miss McSwain entered Piedmont Hospital Nursing School. She graduated from the Department of Nursing at Medical College of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree (BSN) in 1965. At the same time, she served as a member of faculty at Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing.

Lynda Gail McSwain obtained her Masters Degree in nursing and teaching from New York University and joined the staff of the Georgia Department of Human Resources in 1966.

Miss McSwain served two terms as President of the Georgia Nurses Association from 1985 through 1989.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. H. G. McSwain and Mrs. Gladys Hudson McSwain of Thomaston, and her sister, Mrs. Gerry McSwain Bartlett of Atlanta.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Dianne Hutto of Bogart; nephews, Walter Bartlett or New Orleans, James Hutto of Winder, and Michael May of Atlanta, whom she loved as a son. She is survived also by a niece, Terri Askren of Monroe and several great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church on Woodland Avenue, SE in Atlanta with Rev. Russell Couch and Rev. Larry Camp officiating. Burial will follow in South View Cemetery.
