After leading 1-0 three weeks ago at Dutchtown, the Lady Knights were forced by mother nature to come home after two innings, adding to one of their many make-up games in 2012.

Last Thursday Upson-Lee traveled back up to Hampton to take on the Lady Bulldogs from Dutchtown High School. The Lady Knights were coming off of two back-to-back disappointing losses to Griffin and Spalding. However, the Lady Knights were able to put the two losses behind them and defeat a good Dutchtown team on the road by an 8-7 score.

The Lady Knights were led by senior shortstop Demeshia Russell, who went 4 for 4 with a triple and two RBI. Rachel Bridges, who has been on a tear lately, added three hits and two stolen bases in the game. Outfielder Taylor Thomas added two hits, including a double. Hannah Watson and Crystal Spoon also each added two hits, and Senior Haley Self chipped in with one hit in the victory.

Sophomore Crystal Spoon pitched a complete game for the Lady Knights, earning the win in the 8-7 victory. Spoon pitched 7 innings, giving up 7 runs, 11 hits, while striking out two batters. Spoon, along with sophomores Chelsea Wainwright and Kaylee Ellington, have made up a strong young pitching corp.

The Lady Knights traveled to Mosely Park in McDonough to participate in the Region 4 Tournament on Monday, and the tournament will last until Friday. The Times will have full game recaps from the Region Tournament in Friday’s edition.
