During a press conference Monday afternoon, Upson County Commission Chairman Maurice Raines confirmed suspicions that County Manager Kyle Hood is in fact resigning from his post effective September 28. Hood has accepted a similar position as the Town Manager of Tyrone, Georgia and will begin his new job the first of next month.

“On behalf of the Upson County Board of Commissioners, we have accepted the resignation of County Manager Kyle Hood who has been named Town Manager in Tyrone, Georgia. The Board of Commissioners wishes Mr. Hood the best in his new endeavor in his life and we thank him for his service to this community for the past four years,” said Raines. “On a personal note I want to thank Mr. Hood for his friendship, loyalty and support to me as Chairman of the Commission for the last three years. We have done a lot together. Thank you.”

The rest of the board echoed Raines’s sentiments and wished Hood the best of luck with his new venture.

Hood announced that he would be releasing a formal statement at the next Board of Commissioners meeting, but the short version is he agrees it has been a good four years and the decision to leave was not one that he took lightly. He also noted that until his departure he plans to continue to serve the citizens of this community.

“Over the course of the next 10 working days, I am going to try to sew up every loose end that is possible,” said Hood, “and continue to make sure the people of Upson County get the kind of work that I feel like I’ve put in the previous four years. It has been an honor and a pleasure.”

Beginning on September 28, Pam Fuentes will be appointed Interim County Clerk and the board plans to move quickly to fill the position of County Manager.
