Mr. Billy Walter “Smitty” Smith, age 71, of Thomaston, Ga., died September 12, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born on November 21, 1940 in Thomaston, Ga., to the late Hughie and Lila Pearl Smith. He was formerly employed with Martha Mills, where he worked in shipping for many years, and later owned and operated Smitty’s Restaurant in Woodbury. Mr. Smith served his country in the U. S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jean Smith of Thomaston, Ga., daughters, Ms. Tracy Barfoot of Thomaston, Ga., Mrs. Teresa and Steve Harper of Thomaston, Ga., Mrs. Gina and Kerry Carson of Thomaston, Ga.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Thursday, September 13, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Upson County Battered Women and Children at 711 North Bethel Street, Thomaston, Ga. 30286.
