Upson County Concerned Citizens (UC3) wants everyone to come out Saturday afternoon, August 18, and enjoy some good country music while helping to save The Ritz Theater. The Ritz will be the site of the Country Jamboree, featuring the Slim Pickins Band.

Local entertainers, including the Blues Brothers and Sisters, Sylvia Winters, and Jennifer Cintron of Radical Change – runner up in the Texaco Country Showdown – will open the show at 2 p.m. with some of today’s best rock and country music.

At 3 p.m., the Slim Pickins Band will take the stage. Slim Pickins was organized in 2005, with original members John Wise on lead guitar, Grady Kelly of Thomaston on drums, Bowman Pace of Jackson on bass, Taylor “Sonny Boy” Williamson on mandolin, and James McElreath of Morrow. The band’s mission statement is to play and sing country music in the traditional style in order to keep the memory of that great mus8ic out front.

Current members include John Wise and Frank Brannon, both members of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame, Taylor “Sonny Boy” Williamson, and Bowman Pace. Grady Kelly of Thomaston, who has since retired, will reunite with the band to play drums.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at The Ritz Theater, Hog Heaven, the TUAC Gallery, or from UC3 committee members.
