Duane Solomon Jr is currently participating in the London Olympics in the 800m, and has a great chance to medal in the event. Duane’s father, Duane Solomon Sr., is a 1982 graduate of Upson High School, and currently lives in Albany. Recently Solomon Jr. won his heat in the 800m, and finished third in the semifinals heat, qualifying for the finals. Solomon Jr. was a state champion in high school at Cabrillo High School in Lompoc, CA. He was also named the Gatorade Boys Athlete of the Year in 2003. After graduation, Solomon Jr. earned a scholarship to run for the University of Southern California. Duane qualified for the 2012 Olympics when he finished third in the USA Indoor Track and Field qualifier. He currently is ranked the fifth fastest runner in the world in the 800m, and has a personal best time of 1:43.44. Duane ran in the finals of the 800m on Thursday night, but the results of the race were not available by press time.
