Last season the Upson-Lee Lady Knights embarked on a new adventure in starting their volleyball program. Last year was a success, giving players valuable playing experience in during a season in which they would play a junior varsity schedule. The Lady Knights’ first ever volleyball victory in school history came in a win over Lamar County, making the season one to remember.

However, this season the Lady Knights will play a full varsity schedule and will enter play in Area 4, where they will face some of the powerhouses in the state, including Locust Grove and Woodland-Stockbridge. The Lady Knights will take their volleyball “training wheels” off, and start playing with some stiff competition, which according to head coach Angie Murchison, is something the Lady Knights are looking forward to.

“Last season was more about learning the fundamentals of the game,” said the Lady Knights head coach, who was an All-Conference player while at Georgia Tech in the mid-nineties. “We have some key pieces of our team returning. I feel like we are miles further than we were when we ended the season a year ago,” said Murchison. “If we can play up to our potential, I think we can make some waves this season. The girls have been working hard over the summer, and we are looking forward to getting our season underway.”

The Lady Knights will start their 2012 season at home against Harris County on August 10 at 5 p.m. Upson-Lee returns key players like Jasmine Davis, Hannah Fennell, Shannon Chaffin and Kirksley Wainwright, who will look to lead the Lady Knights to a strong season in only the second season in school history. Listed below is the 2012 schedule for the Lady Knights Volleyball team.
