T-U 12 & Under All-Stars finish 1-2 at State Tournament

The Thomaston-Upson 12 & Under All-Star team played in the State Tournament in Dublin over the weekend. After dominating Gilmer County by a score of 20-5, the girls from T-Town lost two in a row, falling to Lee County 10-5, and Wayne County 6-0.

As the District 4 Champions, the T-U All-Stars faced off with Gilmer County (Elijay) in the first round of the tournament. The Thomaston-Upson All-Stars easily handled the team from north Georgia, scoring 10 runs in the first inning, nine runs in the second inning, and one run to win the game in the bottom of the third inning.

Taylor King paced the T-U All-Stars with three hits, two runs scored, and 2 RBI. King also took the mound for the T-U All-Stars, striking out six batters in the three-inning game. Kacee Fennell finished the game with two hits, including a two-run home run in the second inning, while also scoring two runs in the contest. Ally Thompson also finished the game with two hits, two runs scored, and a RBI in the 15-run victory. Mary Masdon McCrary finished with one hit and four runs scored. Madison Wilder and Bayleigh Jackson also chipped in with one hit each in the Thomaston-Upson victory.

In the second game of the tournament, the T-U All-Stars faced a showdown with the undefeated powerhouse from Lee County (Leesburg). The T-U All-Stars lost to Lee County by a 10-5 score, but it was seven errors in the field which cost the hometown team. Lanier Williams pitched for the T-U All-Stars, giving up 10 runs on only seven hits from Lee County. Nearly all of Lee’s runs were unearned.

The T-U All-Stars had nearly as many hits with six. But Lee County committed only one error in the game, which was the difference.

Ally Thompson led the T-U All-Stars with two hits and a run scored. Kacee Fennell also added two hits in the game, with Taylor King finishing with one hits, one run scored, and two RBI. Abby Thompson chipped in with one hit in the loss.

In a win or go home game, the T-U All-Stars came up short against Wayne County (Jesup) by a 6-0 score. Abby Thompson had the only two hits in the game for the T-U All-Stars. Ally Thompson led the T-U All-Stars with an .800 batting average for the tournament.
