One of the most anticipated sporting events open to the community is just a couple of weeks away. The Upson-Lee football team will host their annual Knights Kick-Off Classic Golf Tournament at Raintree Golf Course on July 28-29.
The tournament is in a two-man shamble format, where both players on each team take the best tee shot, playing their own ball from that point until the hole is finished. The lowest score between partners for each hole will count for the team score for that hole.
The entry fee for each team is $250 ($125 per player), and each team will receive lunch and drinks for both days of the tournament, along with the opportunity to play a practice round on Friday, July 27, for an additional $18. Each team will also be able to take part in a catered dinner at Bickley’s Lake on Friday night at 8 p.m. Spouses or dates may attend, although they will have to purchase a meal ticket.
The tournament will start promptly at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, with lunch provided from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Cash prizes will be paid out to the top three places in each flight of the tournament. Noon on Friday July, 27 is the deadline to sign up for the tournament. Each team will be placed in flights by a tournament committee prior to play, based on handicaps turned in. No more than an eight stroke difference in handicaps between partners are allowed. USGA rules of golf will be followed with the exception of the tournament format.
There will be a back, middle, and front tee. Championship and first flight will play from the back tees, with the second and third flight playing from the middle tees. Teams in the fourth flight will play from the front tees. Females and golfers over the age of 60 may play the front tees.
