The Upson Count y Board of Commissioners (BOC) have issued a release stating that prior to their meeting on July 10, 2012, the BOC will meet with the Thomaston City council at 5 p.m. in the basement meeting room of the Thomaston-Upson County Arc hives building to discuss procedures for the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) negotiations.

LOST is a one percent sales tax. The percentage of revenue collected from the tax is re-negotiated between counties and cities every 10 years. Upson County and Thomaston have 60 days from the start of negotiations to come up with an agreed distribution. If such an agreement is not reached, one or the other of the governments can request non-binding arbitration or mediation to attempt to resolve any differences. If that fails, it could be requested that a superior court judge in another jurisdiction make the final decision.
