The 15 & Under Thomaston Warriors started their tournament season off over the weekend in Macon at a tournament with some of the best travel ball teams in the area. The Warriors, who are comprised of mostly freshman and sophomores from Upson-Lee and two players from Manchester, went 2-2 in the tournament with wins against the Georgia Superstars from Stockbridge and the Diamond Kings from Peachtree City. The Warriors lost to the Coweta Tomahawks and the Tifton Mavericks.
In the first game of the tournament, the Warriors took on the Coweta Tomahawks, but lost by a 2-1 score in the triple digit heat on Saturday afternoon. Manchester’s Keon Thompson led the Warriors with a double and a RBI. Thomaston’s Barndon Blount, Kyle Kelly, Elijah Hill, and Levi Long also added hits for the Warriors. Manchester’s Joseph Carney also chipped in with a hit and run scored in the 2-1 defeat.
In the second game of the tournament, the Warriors downed the Georgia Superstars from Stockbridge by a 17-10 score. The Warriors compiled 16 hits and 17 runs in the four-inning game. Levi Long led the Warriors with two hits, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Elijah Hill, Matt Millen, Joseph Carney, Keon Thompson, and Kyle Kelly also had two hits each in the victory. Andrew Timmons. Ben Spillers, and Bennett Pardue each chipped in with one hit in the contest.
After downing the Superstars Saturday evening, the Warriors came back to Macon on Sunday to defeat the Diamond Kings 6-0. Pitcher Elijah Hill was outstanding on the mound, pitching a complete game, while giving up one hit, striking out seven batters, and only walking two batters. Jospeh Carney and Chris Duncan led the Warriors with two hits each. Kyle Kelly added a hit and two runs scored, Levi Long added a hit, run scored, and a stolen base, while Andrew Timmons also added a hit and a run scored. Manchester’s Keon Thompson also finished with a hit and run scored in the victory.
In the Warriors’ next game, they squared off with the Tifton Mavericks, who was undefeated in the tournament. The Warrior’s gave out of gas in the blistering heat, falling 6-1 to the Mavericks. Brandon Blount, Keon Thompson, and Elijah Hill finished with hits in the game. Blount also scored the only run for the Warriors in the 6-1 defeat.
