Mrs. Mercedes Estevez “Vee” McDonald, 92, of Thomaston, died Saturday, June

23, 2012 at Riverside Nursing Center.

Mrs. McDonald was a native of Tampa, FL. She was a recipient of the Tampa

Teachers Club “Medal of Honor” in 1936 and taught Spanish for the U. S. Army

Air Corps during World War II.

After moving to Macon Mrs. McDonald was employed as a librarian for Mercer

University. She was a former member of the Vineville Baptist Church in

Macon.

Mrs. McDonald retired in 1982 and she and her husband, the late James E.

“Jake” McDonald III, moved to Thomaston. She was a member of the First

Presbyterian Church of Thomaston.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by her two daughters, Kay (David) Dunaway of

Thomaston and Martha (Jerry) Mullinax of Columbus; three grandchildren,

Lauren Cover of Snellville, Phil Mullinax of Statesboro and Bruce (Jenna)

Dunaway of Thomaston; six great grandchildren, Jeremy Cover, Amanda Cover,

Maddie Mullinax, Meredith Mullinax, Morgan Mullinax, and Ava Dunaway; and

several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services for Mrs. McDonald were held Monday, June 25, 2012 in the

Chapel of the Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home with Dr. Al Simmons officiating.
