In a game which saw a combined 26 strikeouts, and only one hit total, the Cubs defeated the Astros by a score of 1-0. The uncanny thing about the game was the fact the Astros had the only hit.
The Cubs scored their lone run in the second inning, after Josh Fordham earned a walk, and later came home to score on a wild pitch.
The game came down between the two pitchers, the Cubs’ Dylan Daniel and the Astros Rodney Raines. Daniel allowed only one hit to the Astros’ Cory Ellerbee.
The only run of the game came after Joshua Fordham earned a walk in the second inning. After Fordham walked and stole second base, Dylan Daniel moved him over to third with a ground ball to second base. Fordham would then come home to score on a passed ball by the Astros catcher.
The Atros nearly tied the game up 1-1, after Joseph Nelson earned a walk in the fourth inning. Corey Ellerbee stepped up to the plate and delivered the only hit of the game, with Nelson moving to third base on the hit. However, Daniel stranded both runners after getting a ground out by Rodney Raines, ending the inning and the Astros’ hopes of tying the game.
The Astros never threatened again, as Daniel struck out the side in the final two innnings of the game.
