Dr. Kathy Love, President of Flint River Technical College, has been named the new President of Savannah Technical College as of January 1, 2009.

On Thursday, The Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Ron Jackson made the announcement in Atlanta.

The transfer comes as state budget cuts from Governor Perdue’s office have resulted in the combining of Griffin Tech and Flint Tech.

The technical colleges have undergone significant budget cuts and have been forced to reduce courses, staff and actual work days, going to a four-day work week.

Jackson stated, “Dr. Love is an exceptional leader and a gifted educator who has devoted her entire career to Georgia’s Technical College System.”

He continued, “Her long experience as a proven leader and administrator will ensure that Savannah Tech continues with its solid growth and great record of responsiveness to the coastal region’s workforce and economic development needs.”

Dr. Love commented on her new appointment, “While it saddens me to leave the co-workers and community I have come to call my home over the past seven years, I am honored to be selected to serve as president of Savannah Technical College.”

She added, “I know that I will gain as much from this experience as Savannah Tech will gain from me. I look forward to helping the college continue to be a key player in the economic development of its service area.”

Love, who has been at Flint Tech since 2002, came from the Middle Georgia Technical College where she served as Vice President of Instructional and Student Services.

Holding a Doctorate of Education degree from Northcentral University, Love received her Education Specialist Degree in Education Leadership from Columbus State University, her Master of Science in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, both from Georgia Southwestern State University.

Love has been a very active member of the Upson County community, devoting much time to civic organizations as well as charitable groups.
