Flint River Fall Fest big success

The 2008 Flint River Fall Fest was a “super success.” according to Downtown Manager Sylvia Chapman.

With over 90 vendors in participation and the largest crowd in the event’s history, this year’s festival was the largest to date.

The event began at 10 a.m. and lasted most of the day, with a parade at 12.

The festival featured entertainment from many different churches and individuals.

“Thanks go out to all the local churches and talent that kept people entertained throughout the day,” says Chapman.

The day’s events saw many different contests including a children’s pumpkin decorating contest and costume contest. Listed below are the results of those contests.

Winners of the children’s coloring contest are: Pre-K-Kindergarten: Isabella Velasco; First-Third: Katie Risinger; Fourth-Fifth: Desmeandra Brice.

Winners of the pumpkin decorating contest are: third: Logan Taylor with his baseball player pumpkin; second: Crystal Taylor with her werewolf pumpkin; first place: Kaitlyn Morris with a sea turtle pumpkin.

The costume contest results are as follows: third: Ethan and Evan Lane as Dr. Suess’s Thing 1 and Thing 2; second: Austin Lovejoy as a scarecrow; and first: Grayson and Annie Sheppard as the Tinman and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

The parade float winners are: third: Anthony South; second: Bryan Sussman and Jennifer Parson; and first place goes to Teresa Harper.

Winners of the Four Seasons Spa and Salon Pie Baking Contest are:

In the youth division age 12-16: Savannah Morris with a Creamy Peanut Butter Pie; in the adult division, winners were: third place: Kay Webb, who made a Jack Daniel Praline Pumpkin Pie; second was a tie- Mellissa Lane made a Cherry Crunch Pie and Christy York made a Pistachio Pudding Pie; and the winner of the Adult Pie Baking Contest was Irene Watkins, who made an all-American Apple Pie.

Third place in the window decorating contest was Traditions, second place went to GMAC Realty, and first place was English’s Cafe.

“”All the windows were so creative,” said Chapman, “everyone should go by these places and see them.”

Chapman says the event was a “super success. thanks to all the help from Mainstreet.”

Chapman, on behalf of the City, would also like to thank all of the event chairs that participated, who “made the day a success.”
