At a recent Upson County Board of County Commissioners meeting, newly elected Commissioner Rusty Blackston requested that the Board consider a pay cut of 33.3 percent because of the struggling economy.

“Because of current economic disasters, I would humbly like to request that the County Commissioners approve a proposal to take a 33.3 percent pay cut,” requested Blackston.

“The amount combined from the salary reductions would actually fund one of the two new School Resource Officer positions,” he added. “Let’s take the lead.”

Blackston also requested the Board curtail submitting itemized reports for reimbursement of expenses incurred.

The County Board of Commissioners salaries are as

follows:

Frank Spraggins- $404.08/bi-weekly

Steve Hudson- $392.31/bi-weekly

Sandra Trice- $392.31/bi-weekly

Rusty Blackston- $346.15/bi-weekly

Chairman Glenn Collins salary is $507.69/bi-weekly

Because Blackston’s motion did not receive a second by any member of the Board, the motion was dismissed without a vote.

The Thomaston Mayor and City Council salaries are: Mayor Hays Arnold $300/monthly; Mayor Pro-Tem Doug Head, $225/month; Council members Patsy Perdue, Wallace Rhodes, Ed Bell and Gary Atwater, $200/month each.

Commissioner Blackston donates his paychecks to various charities each month.
