Alright ladies and gentlemen, it is time to dig out those worn down cleats and shin guards from your playing days of old. The Upson County Adult Soccer Coordinator, Jared Huckaby, has announced plans for an all Adult Soccer League for Upson County.
Registration has begun and will continue through August. The league will be comprised of teams of no more than 10 players. Both, women and men can play, but no co-ed stipulation will be set. Any given team can be made up of men and women, all men, or all women.
The games will be played on Sunday afternoons at the soccer fields behind the civic center. There will also be certified referees for each game. Unlike normal soccer where eleven players are on offense and defense, this league will play a field of seven versus seven.
When asked about the league, Huckably said, “I would like to have at least ten teams. I’ve been receiving a lot of good feedback from some people and I already have several teams in place. I think this is going to something that will catch on fast here in Upson County.”
Another difference in this league is the length of the game. The game will be played with two 30-minute halves. The cost of registration is $100 per player. This fee pays for the fields, the referees, and also includes league furnished jerseys.
Only men or women 17 years or older may register. Participants can register as an individual or as a team. For those who are interested, please call the Upson County Civic Center at (706) 647-6751 for more details.
