To the editor:

On behalf of the Thomaston-Upson Humane Society and the Upson County Animal Shelter, thank you for the front page coverage of “Adoption Saturday” at the animal shelter on April 19, where for two hours $50 was discounted on every pet adoption. The morning started off with three adoptions in the first 15 minutes. Later on there were two more. In all a fluffy black and white kitten, a huge six-toed Manx cat, a dachshund mix dog, a gorgeous Chocolate lab, and a beautiful Border Collie found new homes.

Even though we are very pleased with the results, these five represent only a fraction of the very adoptable animals still available at the shelter. We encourage everyone who can to make room for one more very deserving pet that desperately needs a home right now before it is too late. There is no adoption fee through June 30, and the Humane Society pays $20 off every spay-neuter all the time.

We hope to have another two hour “ Adoption Saturday” soon with special rates, refreshments, and perhaps even a surprise or two!

The Humane Society sincerely appreciates the hard work and overtime put in by the shelter staff in making this event possible.
