The Lady Knights of Upson-Lee Middle School are off to a tough 0-3 start, losing two of the games by a total of just 13 points.

The girls suffered a home loss at the hands of Kennedy Road on Wednesday by a score of 49-31. Kennedy came out of the gate running, and by the end of the first quarter had established a 20-6 lead.

By the end of three quarters the lead was over 20 points as Kennedy kept up the pressure and led 41-19.

Upson-Lee made a strong push in the fourth quarter behind six points from Jasmine Matthews, but could not overcome the big deficit.

Liashell Wilson led the Lady Knights with 14 points in the game. She was followed by Matthews and Destiny Allen with seven points each.

On November 30 Upson-Lee lost a very close and low scoring game to Manchester. The teams were tied at the end of the first quarter, but Manchester went on a 9-2 run in the second quarter to end the half with a 15-8 lead.

The Lady Knights battled back to within three points at the end of the third quarter, but Manchester would hang on to win by that same number at 20-17.

Liashell Wilson led the Lady Knights with 10 points in the loss.

Upson-Lee lost its opening game of the season on the road at Pike County 36-26. The Lady Knights struggled to get their offense going early, relying on Diashell Wilson’s five first-quarter points to hold them over. Pike County’s first-quarter total of 11 points matched UL’s first half total. ‘

The Lady Pirates extended their lead to 17 at the end of the third quarter and went on to win the game. Liashell Wilson led Upson-Lee with 11 points while Diashell Wilson scored five points. The Lady Knights made only three of 10 freethrow attempts.

New Head Coach Linda Lockett’s girls will try to get on the winning track this Wednesday when they host Cowan Road.
