Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Dorothy Wilkes Simmons, 89, of S Street, were held Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at 3 p.m., at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ken Smith and Dr. J. B. Teal officiating. Burial followed in Upson Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Simmons died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at her residence.
Coggins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Simmons was born on Oct. 24, 1917, in Macon County, Ga., to the late Louesta and Kate Lackey Wilkes. she lived in Thomaston for many years and was retired from B.F. Goodrich Martha Mills where she worked for over 17 years in the spooling department. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Thomaston. Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Willie J. Simmons, and her son, Mr. J. Q. Simmons.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Fara (Louie) Teal, Mrs. Mary (Charles) White, Mrs. Dorothy (Joe) Hall and Mrs. Shara (Mickey) Clay, all of Thomaston; a brother, Mr. Charlie W. (Sally) Wilkes of Vienna; a sister, Mrs. Adel Collins of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
