Senior Citizens now have a spot to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather.
Thanks to donations by the Home Depot, the Thomaston-Upson Senior Center has a balcony equipped with patio furniture, flowers and a grill.
“The balcony has never been finished because we didn't have the money available in the budgets,” said Linda Wonnum, with the center. “Home Depot and other contributors came forward so we could offer this to our area senior citizens.”
Home Depot had originally intended to supply the grill themselves, but there wasn't enough money left over. So Martha Cox and Rev. Morris McKinney stepped forward to donate money for the grill.
On Friday morning, volunteers and Home Depot employees were hard at work setting up the flower bed, which includes a water feature, and all the patio furniture and grill. There will be two patio tables with four chairs apiece and a solar lighted umbrella for each table.
“I believe our seniors will really enjoy this,” Wonnum said. “We are always grateful when we have corporations like Home Depot help us provide a better place for our residents. We are definitely going to put this to good use.”
