Funeral services for Mr. Lewis M. Phillips, 86, of Ellaville, will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at 4 p.m. at the County Line Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy McConnell and the Rev. Graton Helms officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Phillips died Monday, July 16, 2007, at his residence.

Watson-Giddens Funeral Home of Ellaville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Phillips was born in Macon County on April 20, 1921. He was the son of William Henry and Susan Elizabeth Oliver Phillips. Mr. Phillips had served in the Army Air Force during WWII as a First Lt. Pilot, and later retired from the trucking business. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 191, Al Sihah Temple, and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Phillips served as a county commissioner, and was the chairman of the Democratic Committee for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Phillips; daughters, Patricia (Tom) Raines of Thomaston, and Diane Avret of Cartersville; a sister, Emily Cooper of Marshallville; granddaughters, Kimberly (Tommy) Bohannon of Carrollton, Kristie (Adam) Greer of Hampton, and Lari (Jeff) Swinny and Susie Avret, all of Cartersville; great-grandchildren, John Phillips Bohannon, Hunter and Jackson Greer, Jessica and Paul Swinny; and several nieces and nephews.
