in National Celebration

Today a nation will pause and reflect on the contributions of a great man.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a famous leader of the Civil Rights Movement who encouraged America to judge people not on the color of their skin, but on the content of their character.
In 1964, King became the youngest man ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work as a peacemaker, promoting nonviolence and equal treatment for different races.
MLK Day was established in 1986, becoming only the fourth Federal holiday to honor an individual.
Locally, residents honored MLK with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Upson County Courthouse this morning and a program which followed at Upson-Lee Middle School.
