Funeral services for Mr. Henry Clay Oxford, 90, of Zebulon, were held Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ted Moody officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Oxford died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at Providence Nursing Center.
Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Oxford was born in Pike County, to the late Charles Evans Oxford and Annie Elizabeth Ballard Oxford. He was an administrator for the U.S. Postal Service for over 40 years. Mr. Oxford served in the United States Army during WWII. He enjoyed farming and genealogy.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Opal Roan Oxford a brother, Fred Oxford of Atlanta; nieces and nephews, Glenda Roan Goldman of Concord, Bill (Merrill) Roan of Thomaston, Susan Roan (Walter) Smith of Hickory, N.C., Dr. John (Chris) Roan of Valdosta, Daniel (Carol) Chissus of Walnut Lake, Mich., Danny (Loraine) Oxford and Tommy and Carolyn Oxford, all of Condord, and Gene Oxford of Woodbury; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Building Fund, 14550 U.S. Highway 19 South, Griffin, GA 30224.
