At the 2006-2007 Installation Banquet, the Thomaston Sertoma Club announced the establishment of the Thomaston Sertoma Club Speech, Hearing, and Language Scholarship.

An amount of $7,000 was deposited in an account for the formation of this scholarship. Additional funds will be added to this account yearly from net proceeds of the Rob Bennett Memorial Golf Tournament, the 2006 event coming up in October, and the annual Service To Mankind Raffle conducted every spring.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior who either participated in secondary speech, hearing, and language programs or to someone wishing to pursue a study in these fields.

This was the last official act of the 2005-2006 Board of Directors, whose term expired June 30, 2006. In making the announcement, outgoing President Joey Sayer had praise for the support the community has given the Thomaston Sertoma Club's fund raising projects the last several years, making the establishment of this scholarship possible.
