Funeral services for Mr. James H. Lord, 87, of Griffin, will be held Thursday, June 22, 2006, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, with Dr. Ken Peek officiating. Burial will follow in the Midway Methodist Chruch Cemetery.

Mr. Lord died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Chrisitan Ministries Hospice..

Conner-Westbury Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lord was born on Jan. 17, 1919, in Spalding County, to the late Nezzie Jarrett Lord and the late James Hawkins Lord. He was a retired truck driver. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Edna Young and Irene Wells; a brother, W. C. Lord; and son-in-law, James Thaxton.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Virginia Bunn Lord; daughters, Myrna Thaxton, Linda (Alvin) Hancock of Jonesboro, Julie (Benny) Franklin of Thomaston, and Jan (Turk) Campbell of Griffin; grandchildren, Joy (Tommy) Helms of Griffin, Todd (Michelle) Thaxton of Williamson, Alvin (Pam) Hancock of Griffin, Scott Hancock of Jonesboro, Lisa (Kenny) Garland of Jackson, Tim Hendrix of Seattle, Wash., and Mike (Nicole) Dix of Griffin; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty (Albert) Oliver of Hampton.

Visitation will be held this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
