Funeral services for Mr. Richard Alfred “Dick” Waggoner Sr., 81, of Salbar Street, will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at 10 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Joe Blevins and Dr. Albert E. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrison Family Cemetery in Cairo, Ga.

Mr. Waggoner died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Waggoner was born and raised in Crisp County. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, and served in the Mediterranean and Pacific theaters during World War II until his discharge in 1945. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. In 1966, he and his wife, the former Betty Harrison, moved to Thomaston and purchased the Western Auto Association Store, which they operated until their retirement in 1996.

Mr. Waggoner was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Harrison Waggoner of Thomaston; a daughter, Mrs. Anne (Peter) Beets of New Zealand; sons, Richard A. (Jeanne) Waggoner Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio and James P. (Irene) Waggoner of LaGrange; a sister, Louise McKinley of Perry; a brother, Wendall Waggoner of Newnan; four granddaughters, Lillian Beets, Erica Beets, Amanda Waggoner and Eliza Waggoner; and a grandson, Koen Beets.
