A History of the Chitlin' Hoedown

Senior Writer/News Manager

The taste is acquired; the smell unforgettable.

Residents of Yatesville are gearing up for the thousands of people who converge on the town this weekend to be a part of the 23rd Annual Chitlin' Hoedown.

“There are 150 ways to get the smell off of your hands,” said former Yatesville Mayor Walter Boyt. “And, not a one of them work.”

Still very active in the community, Mr. Boyt is a pivotal part of Yatesville's Chitlin' Hoedown. As president of the senior citizen's group, he sees that the annual festival goes as planned.

“It gets bigger and better every year,” he said. “You'd be surprised how far people come to eat chitlins. You'd also be surprised at how many people from Thomaston have never been.”

Let us consider what chitlins are - they are hog intestines or guts.
