Thomaston Main Street Association members are busy finalizing plans for the third annual Flint River FallFest.

The event will be held on the square in downtown Thomaston, Saturday, Oct. 22.

Thomaston Main Street Director Tyane Presley said this year "promises to be the best yet."

"We all are very excited about this years FallFest," Presley said. "We've added several new activities that we think the community will enjoy."

Presley said she is looking forward to the first FallFest parade which will feature the Al Sihah Shriners.

"The parade is an exciting event that has generated interest in the FallFest," she said. "Those who want to participate in the parade may do so."

New activities this year include a downtown parade, pie and cake baking contest, turkey calling contest, pumpkin decorating contest and entertainment featuring The Foundation/Caribbean Soul and Coy Bowles.

"Just because we've added new activities doesn't mean we won't still have our staple traditions," Presley said.

FallFest will still include the American Heart Association's Heart Walk, Kiwanis pet parade and trick-or-treat, coloring contest, kids fishing derby, food and craft vendors and much more.

"Over $2000 in cash prizes will be given away by sponsors," Presley said. "The fishing derby has $1,000 in prizes."

With the addition of new activities, Main Street Members are hoping to defray the cost away from those who attend FallFest by sponsoring a golf tournament.

The tournament will be held Oct. 5 at Raintree Golf Club on U.S. 19 South.

It will be an 18-hole, four man lauderdale.Registration fee is $50 per player or $175 per team. After Oct. 3, the registration fee per team will be $200.Fees include donation to FallFest, green fees, range ball, door prizes, and lunch.

Golfers also have the chance to pay $5 for each mulligan, correction shot, prior to the tournament. Limit two per person.

"Money raised from the tournament will help pay for activities," Presley said. "We want to continue to make FallFest a free event for the community. This will help us do that."

FallFest activities are sponsored by Reems Jewelers, fishing derby; The Thomaston Times, coloring contest; Rotary club, pumpkin decorating; Serenity Day Spa, baking contest and turkey calling; and Thomaston Main Street, parade.
