The first region win of the season will have to wait for the Upson-Lee Lady Knights' basketball team.
Last Friday night the Lady Knights' chances of getting a region win before the Christmas break went out the window as the Stockbridge Tigers handed the Lady Knights a 52-30 loss in Thomaston, knocking the Lady Knights' region record to 0-4 on the season.
Both Upson-Lee and Stockbridge got off to fast starts in the first quarter as the Tigers took a 16-10 lead going into the second.
Stockbridge outscored the Lady Knights 8-6 in the second quarter, making it a 24-16 game at halftime with the Lady Knights still very much alive.
Stockbridge began to pull away midway through the third quarter, where they outscored Upson-Lee 17-11 to take a 41-27 lead, and then things just fell apart for the Lady Knights.
Upson-Lee managed just three points over the last eight minutes of the ball game and Stockbridge raced to 11 points in the fourth to take the 22-point win.
Shay Walker led the Lady Knights with 12 points while Takieya Howard followed with seven. Tarsheria Little added four points, Shonda Woodard had three and Marcella Quiller had two. Onica Brown and Shakierra Middlebrooks also chipped in with one point each in the loss.
The Lady Knights are playing in the Jones Co. Christmas Tournament this week and will return to region action January 4 as they travel to Dutchtown. They will return home January 7 as they host the Luella Lions at 6 p.m. in Thomaston.
