Agents from the Narcotics Task force have intensified efforts in Upson's drug war, stepping up surveillance and making several arrests.

NTF agents, working with local and federal authorities, arrested seven people on cocaine distribution charges in a series of raids.

One of those arrested, Adrian Alonzo Womble, is a firefighter for the City of Thomaston.

According to reports, Womble was charged after a raid which occurred Monday at a house on Cook Street.

Womble, 975 Prater Street, was charged by agents with the Narcotics Task Force with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and obstruction of an officer.

According to reports, the obstruction charge was lodged after Womble allegedly struck Assistant NTF Commander Mike Ogletree during the arrest.

Also, NTF agents Dec. 7, working with the DEA, U.S. Marshal's, Thomaston Police and Upson Sheriff's Department deputies, arrested six others in drug distribution charges.

All were charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

Those arrested are as follows: Tavarese Gray, 706 Triune Mill Road, two counts; Marlon Lamar Sheffield, 701 Triune Mill Road, five counts; Ron Ellerbee, 369 Martin Luther King Dr., three counts; Gregory Jordan, 342 S. Main St., three counts; Rhonda Lynn Traylor, 342 S. Main St., one count; and Decky Holloway, who reportedly was found with 29 rocks of crack cocaine and four bags of powder cocaine.

In a separate matter, two people were convicted in federal court and sentenced to prison.

Ronald King of Thomaston was sentenced to serve 19 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

King entered a guilty plea to one count of a four-count indictment, admitting he conspired to distribute crack cocaine in Thomaston.

Also, Eric Lamar Drake of Third Street, was sentenced to serve 12 1/2 years after being convicted of selling cocaine to an undercover agent on four occasions.
