Thanks to all who supported summer day camp

I would like to say thanks to everyone who supported us in our summer day camp last week, June 28
thru July 2, at the Salem Community Park. A special thanks to Mrs. Mindy Daniel and the Recreation Department, and to Instructor Monique Traylor and her assistant. Thanks to Mrs. Cora Walker and Ms. Dorothy Ivey for all of their support, to Mrs. Sandra Trice, Mrs. Dorothy Fuller and Ms. Susie Fagan for bringing our lunch each day. Thanks to all of the children who took part in camp and to all of the parents who brought or sent their children. To anyone else who took the time to be with us last week, we say thanks. On Friday, we had a great time at the swimming pool. Again, I say thanks to everyone. Mrs. Claudette Fagan.
The Salem Volunteer Fire Department is having its ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Saturday, July 10, starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 3 p.m. We are asking you to come celebrate this grand occasion with us. If you are unable to attend, please send a representative. This is not a fund-raising event, only a celebration. Refreshments will be served. Mr. Reuben Holston - Fire Chief.
Public Issues Political Forum, Sunday - July 11, 2004 - beginning at 5 p.m. at the Salem Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. This forum is for all candidates seeking office that will represent the citizens of Upson County and the city of Thomaston. The public is invited to come and bring your questions for the candidates. We strongly feel that every vote cast should be a solicited vote. Don't vote for a candidate who does not ask for your vote. We look forward to seeing all of you, the candidates and the general public at this forum. Sponsored by the Salem Civic Organization and citizens of Upson County.
Don't forget the 2nd Flint River Sunday School and BTU Convention will begin on Tuesday, July 13, at the Olive Grove Baptist Church with a musical at 7:30 p.m. All churches are asked to render an A&B selection. Rev. R. L. Hodo - Pastor; Rev. W. E. Sanders - President; Rev. Hope Smith - Moderator.
The convention will continue on Wednesday, July 14, at the Olive Grove Baptist Church beginning at 11 a.m. and July 15 at 11 a.m. All churches are asked to send at least two delegates to represent your church. The NAACP will have its regular monthly meeting on Saturday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at the Triune Village Community Room. Please make plans to attend. Mr. Marvin Cunningham - President.
The New Lebanon Baptist Church will celebrate their 2nd annual Women in Red Program Representing the Blood of Jesus on Sunday, July 11, beginning at 2 p.m. Come join the New Lebanon Baptist Church family in this great program. Rev. Ellis - Pastor.
The Olive Grove Baptist Church will have its annual Men and Women Day Program on Sunday, July 11, beginning at 11 a.m. along with regular morning worship service. Rev. R. L. Hodo - Pastor.
Two of Salem's youth, Zack Raines and Jordan Gaines, just returned from a week-long trip to Memphis, Tenn. where they were competing in the AAU 13 and under boys basketball division II national classic tournament. They are members of the Macon Magic summer basketball team. The team finished fourth out of 34 teams in their division. They faced teams from Ohio, Virginia, Tenn., Indiana, Georgia, Wisconsin, St. Louis and Potomac Valley. Scores from the tournament were: Macon Magic - 62, YOMCA Tennessee - 45; Macon Magic - 73, Indiana Heat - 45; Macon Magic 71, Cobb Co. Hawks - 65; Macon Magic - 53, Wisconsin Badgers - 54; Macon Magic - 54, St. Louis Lakers - 63. The Magic team was coached by Maurice Raines. Congratulations on a job well done. You've made us proud.
