Dwyer brothers are a story of success
You never know who you might find at a Gordon State College Highlanders baseball game. On Saturday, as the Highlanders hosted South Georgia College, freshman infielder Jordan Dwyer had a special guest in the stands, his older brother and Pittsburgh Steeler running back, Jonathan Dwyer. Also joining the elder Dwyer were his wife, Kayla and their 1-month-old son, Jonathan Jr. To make the day more interesting, Dwyer was being followed by a S...

Checking out the 2013 Braves
The 2013 baseball season has started out with a bang for Atlanta Braves fans! As I write this column the Braves have a 12-2 record and are playing great baseball. We all know that the Braves can’t keep up this kind of superb play but it’s fun to watch while it is happening. The slumps and losing streaks are bound to happen, but at least we know what this team is capable of. When I saw the Braves in spring training I was impressed....

Former Lady Knights having success on the diamond
Two of the best Upson-Lee Lady Knights softball players to ever step on a softball field are leading their respective teams at the next level. Sara Poteat, a UL graduate in 2009 and the school’s all-time leader in hits, career batting average, on base percentage, and stolen bases, is currently a senior at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. A former teammate of Poteat’s while at Upson-Lee, Samantha McDaniel (class of 2011), is a sophomor...
