Thanks to all those who have attended fund raising events or donated to The Ritz Digital Challenge for your enthusiastic support, but eight months of fund raising have not produced the required results.
As the studios end 35mm film distribution, without a digital projector, the 85-year-old Ritz Theatre in Thomaston will close its doors for movie entertainment after the evening show on January 13, 2012. By that time, new films on 35mm will be almost impossible to be booked by The Ritz.
As new films are the ones most people want to see, showing alternative entertainment or older films will not bring sufficient box office income to be able to remain open.
If funds for a digital projection system can be found, The Ritz will remain open with new movies, improved picture and sound quality. If not, Malcolm and Amy thank everyone who has come to the movies and supported The Ritz during the past 15 years. It’s been great, but with regret, The Ritz will have to close.
