A Forest Park man arrested on November 4 for driving under the influence of marijuana found out in a hurry that you should not always be so eager to get out of jail. After bonding out and being warned not to drive, he got back in his car and started to drive away. He was stopped and arrested a second time on the same charges.

The incident began about 1:27 a.m. on Nov. 4. Upson County Deputy Clayton Jones was patrolling southbound on Highway 19 Noth when he saw a white Ford Crown Victoria weaving from lane to lane ahead of him. He initiated a traffic stop at Atwater Road. According to his report, the driver, identified as Milton Lanard Henry, 27, of Forest Park, had bloodshot and glassy eyes, and there was an odor of marijuana in the vehicle. Deputy Justin Hammock arrived as backup and did a field test on Henry and he was determined to be unsafe to drive. He was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Driving while his License was Withdrawn, and Weaving over Roadway. Henry said someone from Americus could come get his vehicle, and asked if it could be towed to the Sheriff’s Office. The deputy agreed, and took Henry to the jail.

Three hours later, Dep. Jones was near the Sheriff’s Office when he got a call from the jail asking if Henry could be given the keys to his car. Jones said he could, but told the jailer to warn Henry not to drive the car. As Jones drove up to the office, he saw Henry get in the car and pull out onto Aviation Boulevard. Dep. Jones followed and initiated a traffic stop on Highway 19 North at Harp Road. According to his report, when asked why he was driving, Henry allegedly said he needed cigarettes and would drive to the store and back to the Sheriff’s Office. Henry refused to take a field test from Deputy Hammock, and was arrested a second time on Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Driving with a Suspended License.

On Nov. 3, a Lincoln Park man was arrested for DUI while driving a riding lawn mower on the road. About 9 a.m., Sergeant Neill Sanders answered a call in reference to an intoxicated person driving a lawnmower in the area of Martin Luther King (MLK) Drive. When he arrived, he found a man riding a lawnmower and pulling a trailer with another man in it southbound on Cook Street. The duo turned right onto Solomon Street without stopping, and Sgt. Sanders stopped them on Solomon Street. According to the report, the driver of the lawnmower, identified as Marshall Willis, 65, of Thomaston, said he was going to another location to cut grass. He did not have a license and allegedly told Sgt. Sanders that he had not had a valid driver’s license in “nearly 40 years.” Willis’ eyes were red and watery and there was an odor of alcohol on his breath. He submitted to a breath test and was arrested and charged with DUI and Driving Without a License.
