Third grade students from Upson-Lee South Elementary got an early start on learning about their local government when they toured the Thomaston-Upson government complex earlier this week. The students learned about city and county government and various departments, such as the electrical department, water department, and fire and police departments, and the court system. In the upper photo, Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney Scott Ballard questions a “witness” during a mock trial held for the students at the courthouse. In the right photo, a student learns how to use a pole clamp to shut off electricity.
