On Saturday, April 13, 2013, at approximately 4:30 a.m. Upson County Sheriff’s Deputy Kody Kennedy discovered a fire at the AA Tire Store located at 1545 Highway 19 North, near DelRay Road. Northside Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene and extinguished the blaze. In the upper photo, Northside firefighters can be seen in the background working in the office area of the store, while a deputy talks with the store owners. On Monday, April 15, 2013, at approximately 5:27 a.m., a passerby called in a report of a fire at Upson Automotive, a tire store located at 1068 Highway 19 North, across from the Northside shopping center. Thomaston Fire Department responded to the scene and put out the fire. In the lower photo, smoke can be seen rising from the rear of the building as Thomaston firefighters hook up their hose. Fire and smoke damage to both locations was moderate. According to Sheriff Dan Kilgore, these businesses are not owned by the same person and are not affiliated. The source of each fire has been determined to be arson. The State Fire Marshall’s Office has been called to assist with the investigation.
