Things have been going good as of late for the Thomaston-Upson Industrial Development Authority, with several industry prospects touring available buildings throughout town. Executive Director Kyle Fletcher told the board that she has recently shown the spec building to two different prospects and is encouraged by the interest.
“We had a lot of follow up questions from one of the companies about things such as suppliers and specific utility needs,” said Fletcher, “and that is very encouraging because they seem to have a genuine interest in the building and the area.”
TUIDA Chairman Neil Hightower agreed with Fletcher and stated that there seems to have been more activity in the last three months than there was in all of last year, which he hopes will lead to the right company locating here.
Fletcher also told the board that she has been working on increasing her knowledge of local industries and has met with several to discuss what their needs are and how their industries operate.
She has also met with Scott Blackstock, who owns several available buildings throughout town. She noted that Blackstock owns the old Quad building, which is 14,500 square feet of available office space and could be easily set up for something such as a call center. She is continually working towards attracting industries to the area.
Commission Chairman and TUIDA board member Maurice Raines commended Fletcher for all of her hard work during the short time she has been in office. He stated that no matter which way the road has gone, she has followed it and he is very impressed, to which the rest of the board agreed.
