‘Do you miss me?’

Juniors and seniors got a taste of what could happen if they drive while distracted or drunk during the annual ‘Do you miss me?’ scenario sponsored by FYCA and Upson County EMS. It is an effort to remind students that drinking and driving, texting and driving, or driving distracted can cause serious injury or death. It it always held the week before the prom, which is this Saturday at the Civic Center. In the upper photo, Georgia State Patrol Sergeant Michael Stewart watches as a student tries to walk a straight line wearing a pair of ‘drunk’ goggles. The special goggles give students a taste of how the world may look and how they may act if they are drunk. Students tried to walk a straight line, and also drove golf carts through an obstable course with the goggles on. In the right photo, Upson County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Salter places Nicole Jones under arrest for driving while distracted and removes her from her school classroom. During the week, students were removed from their classes symbolizing either being under arrest for an accident, or having been killed in an accident. The third part of the program, a graphic accident scenario, was cancelled this year due to inclement weather.
