Harris Brantley was the winner of the Thomaston Kiwanis Club/Thomaston Lions Club Shotgun Raffle. Tuesday morning Mr. Brantley won a brand new Remington 12-gauge 870 shotgun with camouflage stock and pump, donated by Jim Esco.

But the real winners will be the people of Thomaston and Upson County, as the $1,000 raised in the raffle was donated to the City of Thomaston for use at Greatest Generation Memorial Park.

“It was Mr. Esco’s idea to have a raffle to help the Greatest Generation Park,” said George Hightower, President of the Thomaston Kiwanis Club. “He donated the shotgun, and the Kiwanis, Lions, and Thomaston Hardware sold the tickets. We are so grateful to Melvin Fallin and the staff of Thomaston Hardware for making this possible.”

Thomaston Mayor Hays Arnold accepted the check for $1,000, stating that Jim Esco had come to him wanting to do something to assist with the park.

“This raffle and the $1,000 it raised will help the park be a tribute long after the rest of us are gone,” the Mayor said.

Jim Esco also expressed his thanks to everyone involved.

“I want to thank the Kiwanis Club, the Lions Club, George Hightower and Melvin Falli,” said Esco, “for their help in selling the tickets to make the $1,000 donation to the Greatest Generation Memorial Park a success.”

Mr. Esco also thanked everyone who bought the $10 tickets: Carl Callaway, Hayse Eubanks, Patrick Comiskey, Jerry Helmes, Hubert Thompson, Frank King, Gary Self, Terrell Miles, Walter Brown, Tery Moss, Tom Jackson, Scott Swofford, Phillip Fallin, Harris Brantley, Malcom Williams, James Harper, Hoppy Hopkins, David McDonald, David Short, Valorie Hill, Tricia Stewart, Wesley Brown, Clenton Green, Tommy Vincent, George Hightower, Lori Showalter, Greg Deason, Sandy Kersey, Sam D’Amico, H.G.
